Counted on paper, keyed in later
Stops and counts go on a tally sheet during the shift and into a spreadsheet after it. By the time the number exists, the shift that made it has gone home.
Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) is availability times performance times quality. The arithmetic is the easy part. Seeing it during the shift, with a reason for each recorded stop, is the work. For manufacturers across Northwest Arkansas, we build custom OEE software on the data your ERP, MES and lines already record, and let AI point to the largest loss. Software you own.

Availability, performance and quality for the shift, the stops behind the availability number, and the work order the longest stop traces back to.
90% × 94% × 98% = 82.9%
Planned time: 400 min. Runtime: 360 min. Availability: 90%.
Material waits account for 55% of recorded downtime. WO-318 is short 120 housings.
This is sample data. Yours would run on the systems you already have.

The line was down, but the record doesn’t say why, or it says “other.” A total of lost minutes gives a supervisor nothing to fix.
One line counts a changeover as downtime and another leaves it out. Ideal rates differ by product and live in someone’s spreadsheet. The same shift can produce two answers.
The controls know the line stopped. They don’t know which work order was running, what it was waiting for or how many good units it made.

AI groups the stops by reason, including the ones typed in as free text, and points to the largest loss of the shift and what it traces back to. It drafts the shift summary. Your supervisor confirms the reasons and decides what changes. The software reads from the line. It does not control it.
OEE is three ratios built from a handful of records. The work is getting them into one place during the shift.
A first project takes one line and one agreed definition of OEE. We connect the work orders and whatever the line already records, add operator entry for the rest, and build the live view and the shift report for that line. Once supervisors trust the number, the same calculation extends to other lines, and the stops can feed the production plan and the material checks.
OEE is one part of the manufacturing software we build, alongside production sequencing, quality holds and material coverage.
Bring last week’s OEE report for one line and the sheet it was built from. We’ll look at what it would take to see the same numbers during the shift.
Talk through your businessAvailability times performance times quality. Availability is run time divided by planned production time. Performance is actual output against the ideal rate for the product that is running. Quality is good units divided by total units. Before we build, we agree with your team what counts as planned time and which ideal rates apply, so the number means the same thing on every line.
No. We start with the counts and run or stop signals your MES or PLCs already record. Where a line records nothing, operators log stops and counts on a tablet. We don’t sell hardware. If a line needs a sensor to count reliably, we tell you, and work with whoever maintains your equipment.
A packaged OEE system is a good answer for a plant that wants its hardware and its screens. We build when the data is already in your ERP, MES and spreadsheets and needs joining, or when the calculation and the views have to match the way your plant runs. You own the result.
Once a project is paid in full, the custom code, configuration and documentation we create for you are yours, handed over in accounts you control. Third-party software, hosting and AI services keep their own licenses and costs.
